Tell us how it all started. Why? What’s the story?
I had been in the banking industry in Delaware since the mid 1980’s, surfing the mergers one after another. I had worn many hats, supervisor, customer service, dispute processing, settlement, accounting, conversions, projects etc…… In 2012 and 2011 I lost both parents and our 12 year old faithful friend Smokey. That is when I realized that life was to short and it was time to go into the career that I had always dreamed of, becoming a Realtor. I took evening classes at the Delaware School Of Real Estate, passed the required exams and received my Realtors License. I resigned from my banking position and took a leap of faith. I have been a Realtor for 1 year now, loving every moment of it.
What is your biggest success so far?
In 1 year I have sold 11 homes, have met some wonderful people and have made some good friends!!!
What is the biggest challenge in your industry? What are you doing to deal with that?
Increasing my sphere of influence, meeting potential clients, networking etc…
I have joined the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber Pro Networking group, participated in a group add the Middletown Transcript.
I try to contact people on my current list to keep intouch and to just stay in their sites, you never know when someone will be looking for a home.
I host 2 open houses a month to meet potential clients and to sell the home I am hosting as well.
I try to attend networking events to meet new people. Once I become a bit more financially stable I hope to look into branding, website etc…
What advice would you give to a business owner starting out in your industry that you wish you would have known going in?
Make sure you have a financial nest egg set aside, it does not happen quickly and you cannot count on the paycheck until you get to settlement.
