Tell us how it all started. Why? What’s the story?
Retired from the Postal Service after 31 years. I was a Union Officer and was heavily involved in enforcing work rules, assisting fellow employees with Workmen Comp claims, Arbitration before Gov’t Agencies and general Contract Enforcement. I managed some Condos where I lived after retirement, and referred the sales of those units to other Real Estate Companies. Finally I figured I could do it, went to Real Estate School, passed that and the License Examinations for the States of Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. I am a member of the New Castle Caounty Board of Realtors, Suburban West Board of Realtors in Pa. and the State Board of Realtors for Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
What is your biggest success so far?
Finding and Selling homes for my friends and neighbors and others who have been referred or who know me, managing the complex transactions and guiding all of my clients calmly to the closing table and into their new home. Drama has no place in the transaction and it is my job to keep it out.
What is the biggest challenge in your industry? What are you doing to deal with that?
Trust. Competence. Trust is the most important of those two. I try to earn the trust of all my clients by letting them know I care by going over and above for all of my clients. In some instances you have to hold their hand and that is okay, it is scary to trust someone to help you purchase the biggest investment of your life. I show them I care by surrounding myself with like, same Professionals be it Inspectors, Settlement Attorneys, Contractors and our goal is getting the client where they want to be. Competence comes in when you understand the process, how it works what needs to be done and not just knowing but completing the tasks at hand and also knowing when and how to avoid bumps in the road to Closing.
What advice would you give to a business owner starting out in your industry that you wish you would have known going in?
Be ready to invest in your business. Be willing to try different ideas not just the suggestions of your company. It is after all YOUR business.
What don’t most people realize about you or your company?
That I am in business to Sell Real Estate. I may be affiliated with a Brand, but I am responsible to manage the entire transaction. I have rules to abide by State Local and Federal but at the end of the day I will always give 100 to my clients, Buying or Selling, that you won’t have a regret about my efforts on your behalf, that I will ALWAYS tell you the way it is, not what you want to hear, and that you will know I listened to what you wanted done.
