Tell us how it all started. Why? What’s the story?
Long story short, I went to college, refined my direction, which turned out to be a pretty quick process of elimination. I got into jewelry design and it’s been a really appropriate fit ever since. I’ve never worked with anything but.
What is your biggest success so far?
My biggest success is really breaking into the engagement ring business. It’s taken a long time understanding how diamonds work. I wasn’t born into it, so I had to figure it out on my own. The most important part is an awesome ring. I definitely care about diamonds, but it’s really about what we do with them and that people trust me.
What is the biggest challenge in your industry? What are you doing to deal with that?
I’d say the biggest challenge currently is perhaps the price of gold. I deal with it by creating things with a particularly good emotional value. I make it their jewelry. People will always spend money on something that is good quality and emotionally significant to them.
What advice would you give to a business owner starting out in your industry that you wish you would have known going in?
I wish I had taken a little more time in my education to focus on business and marketing rather than all my craft. Marketing is also thinking about product creation. Is there a market or do you create one?
What don’t most people realize about you or your company?
People think it’s not for them – that it’s out of their price range. It’s not. It’s custom, and we can make you whatever you want. It doesn’t mean I’m going to charge you whatever I want. The reason I’m fair and reasonable is I’m looking for lifelong clients. I want to be your jeweler forever. I’m grateful for my loyal clients.
