Why We Chose Aniko

“I adore Aniko. If memory serves, I met her at a Wonder Women Tea event at the Blue Hen Bed & Breakfast, but in truth I see her at all sorts of events. I’ve had the pleasure to get to know her over the years and what impresses me most about Aniko is her joyful presence. No matter what is happening, she finds reasons to smile. It’s not a smile that’s forced; it’s a smile that genuinely warms a room. I love that she is proud of her heritage in a world of notenoughness. I love that she loves life and still has enough in her cup to pass that love onto others in their time of need. Aniko is so much more than an inspiring woman — she’s an inspiring human being.”

How long have you worked in the travel industry?

My best answer is that I admit to 40+ years. For the first 25 to 30 years, I was an International Lead corporate agent at several midsize Agencies, and for the last 15 years I have done Leisure travel as an Independent agent.

We know that you're from Hungary, when did you move to the United States, and how did having family affect you living in the States?

I arrived to the US when I was a child as a refugee with my parents in 1957. Thankfully, with the fall of the “Iron Curtain” I have been able to return many times and keep in touch with friends and family in Budapest. I am about to return next month for a Wedding in the maternal side of the family, and will catch up with the paternal side, and with lifelong friends. My parents always made sure to send financial help to the relatives who needed it, and I am continuing that tradition.

Give a shout out to a woman or women who you consider to be your mentor(s)

One of the most impactful mentors in my life , Fredericka (FRITZI) Lonberg-Holm, a neighbor and friend for over 40 years just passed away at 82. Rest In Peace. In business I have learned more from Vicki Lam of Promo Victory, than I imagined I could learn from a woman as young as she is. She has been an incredible inspiration, without even trying to be a mentor.

How many countries have you traveled to, and which was your favorite?

It has not occurred to me to count countries. However, just taking a quick look at the globe in my ATLAS, I count 42 countries.  It is impossible to pick a favorite. Every country has its own special memory. The four destinations on top of my list would be Bali Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa and Cuba. I am about to go to CROATIA for the first time, so let’s see if it will also make it to the top!

We understand that you recently organized a benefit for a friend who has cancer, where do you find the time to manage home and work life balance?

When a FRIEND is in NEED… one must make the time. The best gift that one can receive, is to be able to give. I have been given many kindnesses from many people and I am blessed to be able to pass it forward. You just DO IT! By the way, I did not do this alone I had three incredible women whom I worked with. Pamela Mayse, Angela Jo Manieri, and Ester Rich. The entire business community came together to make this a success.

If you had to start over from scratch knowing what you know now, would you do anything different? If so, what would you do?

The only thing I would do differently, is start my own business 20 years sooner. I love what I do. Making people’s dreams come true is so rewarding. I know several great travel professionals and we have decided that our profession is an addiction. We can never give it up. I am grateful that I made the choice to try this as my second career, and I hope to be able to be involved in the industry as long as I live.

What change do you want to see in the world, and how are you aiding that cause?

World PEACE would be nice. My parents lived through World War II. Then in Budapest under Communism, we had to hide that we are Jewish. I am afraid that we are heading down that road again. The only thing I can do about that is to VOTE. I also hope that someday everyone will have equality. I wok relentlessly as a member of HADASSAH, when money is being raised for the Hadassah Medical Center Ein Karem, a section of Jerusalem. They serve everyone regardless of race, creed, color, religion, nationality or ability to pay.

Stay tuned for the next fabulous gal…
